Wristwake · last updated 30 October 2026
The short version
We collect nothing. Wristwake reads your heart rate, sleep and wrist movement on your own iPhone and Apple Watch to wake you. That data is never sent to us or anyone else. There is no account, no ads, no tracking and no server.
What the app uses, and why
- Health (read only): on your Apple Watch, Wristwake asks to read two kinds of Health data, Heart rate and Sleep. At your wake time, the Watch reads your heart rate from the past night (to learn your resting level) and the latest readings (a rise helps tell that you are starting to stir), plus that night's Sleep data for its record of the wake. On the iPhone, if Health access is on, Wristwake reads only Apple's sleep stages for the night of each alarm and passes them to your Watch to check its wake timing. The iPhone reads no heart rate, shows no sleep or heart-rate charts and saves none of it. Wristwake never writes anything to Health.
- Motion (Apple Watch): the Watch senses wrist movement in the last 15 or 30 minutes before your alarm time, to notice when you start to stir. Raw movement data is not saved. Only short summaries are kept (see below).
- Alarms (iPhone): to schedule your alarm on the iPhone, so it rings at your time even if the Watch is off or away.
- Notifications: on the iPhone, to repeat a missed alarm 2 and 5 minutes later and for an optional bedtime reminder (off unless you turn it on). On the Watch, to ring an alarm you set there and to remind you to open Wristwake. One reminder two days before your free week ends.
Your Health data
- It is used only to wake you and to keep a record of how each wake went, on your own devices.
- It is never used for advertising or marketing.
- It is never sold, and never shared with us or any third party.
- It stays on your iPhone and Apple Watch. It moves only between those two devices, over Apple's own iPhone–Watch connection.
What is kept on your devices
- iPhone: your alarm settings, repeat days, chosen sound, and a list of your mornings (when you woke and why). Kept until you delete the app.
- Apple Watch: for each alarm, movement and heart-rate numbers from the wake window, that night's sleep stages copied from Health, and how the wake went. Only your last 30 alarms are kept: each time a new alarm starts on the Watch, older records are deleted.
- iPhone keychain: one date, the latest date the app has seen, so the free week can't be stretched by changing the clock. It holds nothing else. Keychain items can stay after you delete the app.
If you back up your iPhone (to iCloud or a computer), the backup can include your alarm settings and list of mornings, like any app's data. Wristwake never saves your Health data to iCloud. Apple protects those backups, and we can't see them.
What we don't do
- No accounts, no sign-in.
- No analytics, no ads, no tracking, no third-party SDKs.
- Nothing is uploaded: the app has no servers and no iCloud sync.
Purchases
Monthly and Yearly (each with a 7-day free trial, then renewing until you cancel) and the one-time "Unlock forever" are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details or Apple Account. The app only checks on your device which of these your Apple Account has. Cancel a subscription any time in Settings › your name › Subscriptions.
Turning access off and deleting your data
- Health: on your iPhone, Settings › Privacy & Security › Health › Wristwake, or in the Health app: tap your picture › Apps › Wristwake. You can turn Heart rate and Sleep off any time. Without them, your Watch uses movement only, and your iPhone alarm still rings.
- Motion: Wristwake needs no Motion permission. It senses wrist movement only while a wake session runs. To stop it, turn off "Wake me a little earlier if I'm stirring".
- Alarms and notifications: Settings › Apps › Wristwake on your iPhone.
- Delete everything: delete Wristwake from your iPhone and your Apple Watch. That removes all of its data, except the one keychain date above. Your Health data stays in Apple's Health app, which Wristwake never changed.
We hold no data about you, so there is nothing for us to delete or hand over.
Children
The app collects no data from anyone, including children.
